QUESTION:

I have terrible foot pain that runs from the heal of my foot to my toes. Going for long walks is excruciating and almost cripples me. Are there any natural remedies or home exercises that I can use to fix this problem? I would be forever in your debt if you could help. Cheers, Rodney.

ANSWER:

Foot pain & heal pain, along with general foot soreness, are amongst the most common health problems that people seek treatment for. Foot pain & heal pain can strike any age group, however, the elderly, athletes & overweight people are the most frequent sufferers. Medical conditions such as gout, fibromyalgia, bursitis, heal spurs, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis & tarsal tunnel syndrome can also contribute to foot pain.

Wearing poorly fitted shoes is one of the main instigators of sore feet. So if you have footwear that doesn't fit comfortably under your feet & doesn't line the arch of your foot correctly, it would be wise to do away with these & invest in some quality footwear. Memory foam footwear is definitely your best option. These allow your feet (particularly your foot arch) to fit perfectly in the sole of the shoe & are so comfortable, you can literally wear them all day without feeling any soreness whatsoever.

So along with wearing good quality footwear, here’s 8 natural home remedies for relieving foot pain & heal pain that will also help tremendously…

Natural Remedy for Foot Pain #1… Hot & Cold Method: This treatment works for any type of inflammation related problem. The hot water gets the blood flowing while the cold water reduces the inflammation and soreness. Simply fill a bucket with hot water (as hot as you can handle) & another with cold water. Place your foot/feet in the hot water bucket for 2-3 minutes then transfer to the cold water for one minute. Go back to the hot water & continue to repeat the cycle 4-5 times, making sure you finish off with the cold water. The great thing about this remedy is you can use it for sprains and strains, bursitis, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, gout, fibromyalgia, & of course, for general foot soreness, & you’ll receive almost instant relief!

If you want to increase the effectiveness of this treatment, add 2-3 tablespoons of either Epsom salt, baking soda or borax (or a combination of all 3) to your hot water bucket. These potent powders & crystals will help to reduce the pain, swelling & inflammation even more.

Home Remedy for Heal Pain #2… Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): The biggest reason & underlying cause of foot pain & heal pain is acid in the body. When the body is acidic, inflammation runs rife. Take the acid out & healing begins to occur very quickly.

Consuming organic ACV is one of the most effective ways to turn the body from an acidic state to an alkaline state. To do this, all you need to do is consume a tablespoon of raw organic apple cider vinegar with the “mother” (such as these) in a glass of warm filtered water twice daily on an empty stomach (add a teaspoon of raw honey to the mix for taste if need be). Or, if you find yourself cringing at the thought of drinking apple cider vinegar, simply purchase the ACV capsules instead. Around 2000 mg’s a day of these will do the trick.

In addition to consuming the ACV internally, using it externally to relieve your foot & heal pain also works a treat. Simply soak a wash cloth or rag in some apple cider vinegar & either wrap this around your foot or place on the affected area then wrap your foot with a bandage. Leave on for as long as possible.

Natural Treatment for Sore Feet #3… Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE): Grapefruit seed extract contains strong antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients. Taken internally, it reduces muscle & tendon pain & inflammation significantly. Rubbed externally on sore feet provides the same powerful benefits.

This is definitely one home treatment for foot & heal pain that you don’t want to pass up. Just make sure you purchase grapefruit seed extract & not grapeseed extract (many people get the two confused). Buy the grapefruit seed extract (GSE) liquid & add 10 drops to a glass of fruit juice (GSE is quite bitter so you’ll need the juice) & drink this 2-3 times each day.

In addition to this, place 12 drops of the GSE in the palm of your hand then gently rub & massage this on and around the affected area. Leave on for as long as possible, preferably overnight if you can, for best results. Here’s what grapefruit seed extract looks like if you’re interested… Best Grapefruit Seed Extracts.

Natural Remedy for Foot & Heal Pain #4… Turmeric, Ginger & Cayenne Pepper: These herbs & spices are considered 3 of nature’s top pain & inflammation relievers, which makes them a perfect remedy and treatment for foot pain & heal pain. Making yourself a home-made “anti-inflammatory” smoothie with turmeric, ginger & cayenne pepper every morning is
a simple and very effective way to not only treat your current foot pain problem, but also help to keep this nasty problem away for good. Here’s a simple (and tasty) recipe you can use…

INGREDIENTS
10 oz coconut milk
1/2 banana
Handful of frozen peaches
1 tsp of turmeric
1/2 tsp of ginger
1 tsp of Ceylon cinnamon
Pinch each of cayenne & black pepper
1/2 tsp of chia seeds
Tsp of honey

METHOD
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Serve and drink immediately. Delicious!

Home Remedy for Foot Arch Pain #5… Fish Oil: Fish oil supplements are a “tried and true” remedy for pain & inflammation & even most doctors either recommend them to their patients or at least acknowledge their therapeutic benefits. Fish oil is rich in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) & omega-3 fatty acids, both of which help sooth joint & muscle/tendon pain & calm inflammation. Fish oil is in fact the number one recommended choice for arthritis pain relief for this very reason.

For best results, take at least 6000 mg’s of mercury free fish oil in divided amounts throughout the day. You need to make sure you take at least 6000 mg’s per day or you will not receive the full benefits. Between 6000 & 12,000 mg’s is the daily requirement for fish oil if you want to heal foot pain. Anything less will simply not work.

Natural Remedy for Sore Feet #6… Eat Alkaline Foods: Along with consuming organic apple cider vinegar to alkalize your body (positive pH), eating & drinking alkaline foods will also help bring a speedy end to your foot pain & heal pain. By increasing your body’s pH level, you naturally reduce inflammation. In addition to this, alkaline foods are high in ligament & tendon strengthening nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, manganese, boron, zinc & vitamins C & E.

Best alkaline foods are fresh fruits & vegetables, particularly green leafy vegetables. Lemons are also a terrific pH booster so be sure to add a couple of slices of lemon to your daily drinking water (make sure you only drink filtered water) for extra benefit.

Baking soda can also help to boost your body’s alkalinity very quickly so adding ½ teaspoon to a glass of clean filtered water & drinking this for the first week will make a huge difference to your foot & heal pain as well.

Finally, get rid of the commercial table salt you have in your home & start salting your food to taste with Himalayan pink rock salt (crystal salt). Pink rock salt is not only highly alkaline, it’s rich in calcium, magnesium, boron & zinc, along with 80 other essential minerals & trace elements. This type of salt is extremely good for you & doesn’t raise your blood pressure either (it actually lowers it).

While you want to boost your pH level, you also want to limit the amount of acidic foods you eat as these produce acid in the body, which of course is something you definitely don’t want. All refined & processed foods (including junk foods) are acidic so these are all best kept to a bare-bones minimum. Animal meat & animal based foods (including diary), along with alcohol & coffee, are also highly acidic so if you can leave these out as well, even better.

Home Treatment for Foot & Heal Pain #7… Foot Stretch: This exercise is so simple & so ridiculously effective!!! All you do is face a wall with your feet 2-3 ft back from the wall. Slowly lean into the wall as if doing a stand up push up & feel the stretch in the back of your leg(s) and heals. Hold for between 30 & 60 seconds then rest for one minute. Repeat again. Do this stretch and release a minimum of 8 to 10 times. You will definitely feel it in your calves, but you should also feel it in the heal/ball of your foot & instep. Or as a variation, you can simply take slow steps when walking, stretching out the soles of your feet as you walk. Both techniques work equally as well.

Be sure to do these stretching exercises as many times throughout the day as you can - whenever you get the chance. What they do is strengthen the muscles, tendons & ligaments in your feet, along with reducing the tightness that’s causing much of the problem. I guarantee you’ll feel a very noticeable improvement, even after your first attempt. That’s how well they work.

Home Remedy for Sore Feet #8… Massage: While regular foot massages done on their own may not be a “permanent cure” for recurrent sore feet, when used in conjunction with some of the remedies listed above, they can certainly help. Apply a little olive oil or coconut oil to your foot & gently massage the affected area for 10-15 minutes. Be sure to do this once a day if possible for best results.

So there you go Rodney. Hopefully these tips & remedies help you out!

Good luck & all the best to you.
