8 Fast-Acting Toothache Remedies That Work a Treat!

by Kathy
(Wyoming, USA)

Here's an emergency relief home remedy for a severe toothache that works fast, along with other home remedies for a tooth infection and nerve pain that you definitely should consider...

QUESTION:

Please help! I have a very painful toothache and need a home remedy/cure that works and works quickly! I have no health insurance and can't keep taking pharmaceutical pain killers, they aren't agreeing with me.
Thank you.
Kathy.

ANSWER:

A toothache is without a doubt one of the most painful problems you can have. In fact, some women even say that having a toothache is worse than going through childbirth!

The main causes of a toothache include infection, decay, nerve (pulp) inflammation, injury, a cracked tooth, or loss of a tooth, just to name a few (see above diagram). Thankfully, there are some terrific natural and home remedies that not only reduce the pain and swelling significantly, they go to work very quickly.

Here's 8 of the best...

Home Remedy for Toothache #1... Garlic: Garlic is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antibiotic herb that kills infection causing bacteria, fungi and viruses. It's probably the most popular home remedy for a toothache there is. The reason? It works!

Simply mix a crushed garlic clove (or use garlic powder if you don't have a fresh clove) with some sea salt or Himalayan pink rock salt and apply it directly on the affected tooth for some fast pain relief. Or if you prefer, chew one or two garlic cloves to release the allicin (this is the main antibiotic property contained in garlic) to give yourself some welcome relief. Continue to repeat this treatment for 2-3 days.

Natural Remedy for Toothache #2... Cloves: Similar to garlic, cloves also contain anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiseptic and anesthetic (numbing) properties that work quickly to alleviate tooth pain and fight any infection caused by a toothache or tooth abscess.

For this, either grind or crush two whole cloves and combine with some olive oil or coconut oil (slightly heated) then apply to the infected tooth. Or, you can go with the easier option of dabbing a cotton ball in some clove oil and rubbing this directly on the sore tooth. You can also use the clove oil as a mouth rinse by mixing 3-4 drops in half a glass of water and swishing this mixture around in your mouth. Repeat 2-3 times daily.

Natural Treatment for Toothache #3... Your Own Urine: I was apprehensive to put this one in at first, however, it works so astonishingly well and works so quickly that I recommend it actually be your first "go to" remedy! All you need to do is get past your initial shock and disgust and you'll be fine. Urine therapy (uropathy) has been practised for thousands of years, particularly in India, and is a potent remedy for teeth and gum problems. You may think that your own urine is just a toxic waste product, but it's not. In fact, your pee is actually one of the most powerful antibiotics in existence - and best of all, it doesn't cost you a cent!

In fact, former Indian Prime Minister, Morarji Desai, drank his own morning urine every day and died at the age of 99! He said this about urine therapy... "For diseases of eyes, ears, teeth and skin, it is the most effective remedy".

Dr. G.K. Thakkar (author of "Wonders of Uropathy") stated that washing your mouth with your own fresh urine works with "almost 100% success" for all manner of tooth and gum problems including...

- Healing toothaches. Works for the worst type of tooth pain and has never failed in a single instance. Even the
severest, most excruciating toothache will disappear in a matter of minutes according to Dr. Thakkar.

- Loose teeth firming up within 1-2 weeks.

- Incurable gingivitis, pyorrhea/periodontitis (bleeding gums) healed in just a few days.

- Abscesses and canker sores healed within a matter of days.

Uropathy will also help with...

- Dental inflammation
- Tartar (calculus) build-up
- Tooth root infection
- Bridge infection - will prevent bridge infection and pain from developing

To make use of this remedy you will need your morning urine, which is the strongest. Simply pee in a cup, then take a mouthful and "swish" this around in your mouth for 10 minutes. Do not swallow any of the mixture as it will contain toxic bacteria and other pathogens. Spit the mixture out then take another sip and swish once again for 10 minutes. Spit out then rinse your mouth with some clean water.

All I can say about this remedy is... wow, it really works!!! For the sake of your sanity and some well deserved sleep, be sure to give it a go! Just try not to gag on it.

Natural Cure for Toothache #4... Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): Apple cider vinegar has strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. The acidic components in ACV also help to kill the bacteria that causes a toothache.

For this remedy, make sure the apple cider vinegar you use is organic and still contains the "mother" apple (like this one). Do not use a processed ACV for this! All you do is take a mouthful of ACV and swish it around in your mouth for 10-15 minutes then spit out. Repeat this several times per day for best results.

In addition to this, try mixing 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and one teaspoon of raw natural honey in a glass of warm filtered water then drink down. Do this twice each day, which will also help to kill the infection from the inside as well.

Home Remedy for Toothache #5... Oil Pulling: Oil pulling has been used in ancient Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. It works by sucking the toxins and bacteria that are causing the pain and inflammation, from the mouth.

Simply swish a tablespoon of organic coconut oil around in your mouth for 15-20 minutes then spit out. This practice is best done first thing in the morning upon arising, however, if you're desperate then anytime of the day will suffice.

Natural Remedy for Toothache #6... Hydrogen Peroxide: Preferably use the 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide for this one. Hydrogen peroxide destroys almost all infections, and does this quite rapidly. Take a mouthful and gargle and swish around in the mouth for 10 minutes before spitting out. Repeat when needed.

Natural Treatment for Toothache #7... Activated Charcoal: Activated charcoal is great for drawing out an infection and providing pain relief and works particularly well for abscesses. Mix some activated charcoal powder with a small amount of water - just enough to make a paste. Apply this to the affected tooth/abscess and leave on. Re-apply if or whenever the tooth starts to become troublesome again.

Home Remedy for Toothache #8... Salt Water: One of the oldest known remedies in the book. Simply mix a teaspoon of sea salt in a glass of hot water and use this to rinse your mouth thoroughly. The salt water helps to reduce the swelling and inflammation, along with destroying the bacteria that's causing the infection.

So hopefully one of these natural remedies helps you out Kathy and gives you some much deserved relief.

Good luck and all the best to you!

Urine Therapy Works!
by: Ian

Hey Troy. Mate, I must admit when I first read your "urine remedy" for a toothache I thought it was a joke. But I was in such excruciating pain from an infected tooth that I thought, what the hell, I might as well give it a go (yes I was desperate). And wouldn't you know, it worked!! Within an hour the pain had subsided to just a slight, dull ache. I continued to rinse my mouth with my own pee for the next two days and the infection cleared. I mean COMPLETELY cleared!

Thanks for your awesome tips and great website. Cheers!

Tooth pain remedy
by: Melody

My Uncle Kenny suggested a few years ago I use the alcohol Everclear for an exposed nerve I had in one of my tooth. It burns like hell if swooshed around in your mouth. However, if you soak a Q-tip in it or have a medicine syringe and shoot the alcohol right onto the painful tooth, that works much better. I've only found it sold in my hometown in travel sized bottles at a gas station. It's very potent alcohol, which I'm guessing is why its hardly sold anywhere anymore and it works on regular tooth pain as well. I keep at least two travel sized bottles in my medicine cabinet just in case. I highly recommend it. Just make sure it's up and out of reach from kids & pets. Very powerful stuff in more ways than one. Hope this also helps sufferers of tooth problems! ✌

Pee swish works!
by: Keith

Amazingly it works. I took 8 Alleve pills yesterday with relief only after the 8th pill. Since I did not want to repeat another day of 8 Alleve doses, I started looking for another way. This morning, I found this article and tried the ACV remedy first... no luck. As the pain was excruciating, I swished my pee. I'm actually so amazed that I might do it every morning!

Urine remedy while pregnant?

Is this ok to do while pregnant? The pain is unbearable and I've not yet been able to afford an extraction yet. Need all the tips I can get. This pain is worse than childbirth.

Yes, it's perfectly fine to do while pregnant. Remember, you don't swallow it. You swish it around then spit it out (very important). Be sure to rinse your mouth with clean water afterwards too.

Good luck and all the best to you! :)

10 minutes or 10 seconds

Is it really 10 minutes (swishing your own urine) or 10 seconds?

Urine Therapy
by: Anonymous

Hi, If you don't swallow the urine because it has toxic bacteria in it, why isn't it toxic to the infected tooth? Why wouldn't bacteria from the urine infect the tooth more?
Thanks.

Urine
by: Anonymous

I tried it, swished for 10 minutes, spat out then repeated for another 10 minutes. It's been 20 minutes since I spat the second lot out. It's better than it was but still hurting a lot. 😳 I feel like it may have to be pulled out. 😩

In all honesty, you just do for as long as you can handle it. If you can make 10 minutes then great, if not, even 3 or 5 minutes will still provide some welcome relief. :)

The urine draws the infection out then absorbs it. The bacteria doesn't get re-absorbed by the tooth. Once you spit it out, whatever bacteria was in that urine is now gone. :)

Continue to do the urine treatment as long as is required, even if this is for several days. It will continue to improve. ::

Hot water bottle

My mom told me to fill a water bottle up with hot water and put it on the side of my mouth that hurts. I did this and as of now it's the only thing that has really helped me.

Crushed Clove Works
by: Bevan

I used a crushed up clove the last time I had a really bad toothache and this helped a lot. Definitely helped to numb the pain. I started doing the oil pulling with coconut oil every morning starting about 3 months ago. I'm amazed at what a difference this has made. My teeth and gums are much healthier and my breathe doesn't smell like something crawled inside my mouth and took a dump. I recommend everyone do the oil pulling. It's so worth it.

Cheers.

Try This...
by: Janette

I am an active and long time marijuana smoker. I chew on weed stems and this temporarily numbs and soothes the pain of the nerves and gives about 2 hours of relief. If you can chew on the stems more and for longer, go for it. Highly recommended. :)

Abscesses tooth
by: Edd

Hi Troy, love your site. It has changed my life. My question is my wife was scheduled for a root canal prior to coronavirus. All dentists are closed at the moment and I don’t feel comfortable with her going anyway. Will Apple cider vinegar (with mother) kill the infection along with coconut oil pulling?

Hi Edd. You can certainly try these two first and see if they help. If not, try another combo or add and extra one or two remedies to the ACV and oil pulling. Sometimes it can take a bit of mixing and matching to find the right combination.

Hope this helps you and your wife out.

Good luck and all the best!

Charcoal
by: Gavan

The activated charcoal is the ducks nuts for a toothache! I was in a lot of pain last night because of a sore tooth and abscess at the back but luckily the wife had some charcoal in the cupboard that she bought a while ago for her upset stomach. She mixed some up and today I'm all good. Who wood of thought? 😂 Cheers.
